APPLIED MATHEMATICS IN THE ARTS FACULTY

First Year Arts Course - applied mathematics

No prior knowledge of Leaving Certificate Applied Mathematics is assumed. The course covers the application of mathematical techniques such as calculus and vectors in mechanics, population models, biological systems and other topics such as planetary motion and rigid body motion. The emphasis is very much on mathematical problem solving and applications rather than formal theorem proving.

Second Year Arts

Courses in Classical Mechanics and Mathematical Methods are offered at Pass and Honours Level. A course in Numerical Analysis is offered jointly with the Department of Mathematics.

Third Year Arts
