Assertiveness for Collaborative Working

Assertiveness for Collaborative Working

Duration: 1 full day

Facilitator: DCM Learning

Target Audience: All Staff

Course Content:

Assertive communication is an essential skill for working effectively across the University, enabling staff to express ideas with confidence, build positive working relationships and navigate challenging conversations with professionalism and respect.

Whether collaborating with colleagues or stakeholders, staff are regularly required to communicate clearly, manage expectations and contribute positively to shared objectives.
This practical one-day programme equips participants with the knowledge, techniques and confidence to communicate assertively without becoming passive or aggressive. Through facilitated discussion, practical exercises, role-play and University-based scenarios, participants will develop practical strategies for expressing ideas, setting appropriate boundaries, managing challenging conversations and responding confidently in a range of professional situations.

Throughout the day, participants will reflect on their own communication style, strengthen their confidence and practice techniques that can be applied immediately within their role. The programme encourages respectful communication, collaboration and positive working relationships, equipping participants with practical techniques to contribute confidently to shared objectives across the University community.
